Hanston is located directly in the center of the lower 48 states of the United States on the southwestern plains of Kansas in the central time zone.
Primary economic source is agriculture and livestock. Small community gatherings and a large support system for the schools, make up a majority of this small towns activities.
Located on south side of Kansas highway 156, between Dodge City, 40 miles to the south, and Hays, 71 miles to the north. Great Bend 58 miles to the east and Garden City 67 miles west.
On the eastern side of Hodgeman county, Hanston shares this county with only one other town, Jetmore, the county seat.
Hanston is dissected by an old rail line put in by the Santa Fe Railroad in the late 1800's. It has been abandon now for years. Buckner creek winds it's way around the south edge of town
